Man commits suicide in field near Supercenter
Ceres Police investigation

The apparent suicide of a man in a field west of the Walmart Supercenter on Thursday has prompted an investigation by the Ceres Police Department.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department identified the man as David Lazar, 29, who lived on El Camino Avenue.

At 2:56 p.m. officers responded to reports of a suspicious person near a damaged silver colored GMC Sierra pickup in a field east of the 3900 block of Brickit Court and behind the Village Ceres Apartments.  A citizen reported hearing a gunshot but couldn’t see what was happening.

Police used a drone and armored vehicle to check the field for safety reasons. They located Lazar dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Anyone with knowledge about this incident is asked to contact Detective Brian Petersen at (209) 538-5627.
