Pedestrian, 56, killed on Mitchell Road

Ceres Police are investigating the death of a 56-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle early Sunday while attempting to cross the road in the 2700 block of Mitchell Road.

Killed was John Younan, 56, of Ceres. He was eastbound on foot outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a northbound Acura. The 17-year-old Modesto teen driving the car stopped after the collision.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 12:32 a.m. Responding to the scene was the Ceres Police Department, Modesto Fire Department and an American Medical Response paramedic team. Officers were the first on scene and began attempts to resuscitate the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic investigators are in the early stages of the investigation and urge anyone with information on the collision or who may have witnessed the collision to contact Officer Freddie Ortiz at (209) 538-5678.
