Persephone Guild of Ceres members recently sewed and delivered 50 angel costumes for use by Westport Elementary School kindergarteners in a beloved routine of the Winter Program.

Since at least 1974, kindergartners at the school have been performing the song, “Ten Little Angels” every year, which has been an audience favorite of Westport’s Winter Program musical. The angel costumes were decades’ old and showing a lot of wear and tear.

Last fall, Jeanene Michelena, a former Westport student and now the Westport PTC treasurer, approached Valli Wigt, a member of the Persephone Guild and former teacher about the need for new angel costumes. The deal was that Westport PTC would buy enough white fabric and Persephone Guild members would sew the costumes.

Members who worked diligently on the project were Persephone Guild members Valli Wigt, Linda Aycock, Jackie Wimberley, Laura Wyman, Loretta Tobler, Sheryl Welch and Candy Brown.

The angel costumes were presented to Michelena and her kindergartener son at the April Persephone meeting.
