The Persephone Guild of Ceres honored the veterans of the American Legion Ceres Post 491 at their Wednesday meeting.

Steven Whitney, Yolanda Whited, Pete Samaniego and John Warren received 30 lap blankets made by Persephone Guild members to be distributed by the American Legion to veterans in Ceres and surrounding areas.

“Each blanket was made with the desire to show our deep appreciation of all that the veterans have done to keep us safe,” said Candy Brown, the president of the Persephone Guild.

The Persephone Guild of Ceres is a service organization made up of women in the Ceres community. They raise funds for projects in Ceres such as the lap blankets, Thanksgiving baskets for needy families, and high school scholarships.

Currently members are raising funds by selling tickets for a drawing. The first prize is a gas BBQ grill and the second prize is a lap size quilt. The drawing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Tickets will be available at the craft fair at Tuolumne River Lodge on Saturday, Dec. 3 or from Guild members. For tickets or more information leave a message at 209-338-8954.
