A 29-year-old Modesto man was caught trying to break into a Chevy pickup early Tuesday, April 12 in the 2900 block of Whitmore Avenue and taken to jail by Ceres Police.

At 12:48 a.m. Officer Lydia Prieto spotted a suspicious looking man standing next to the pickup as it appeared he was prying on the passenger door with a tool. Officer Prieto turned the spotlight on Andrew Maldonado, 29, of Modesto as he turned toward her and dropping a small metal bar to the ground.

Police say Maldonado was attempting to open the door of the vehicle with the metal tool, causing damaged to the pickup in the process.

He was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of vehicle tampering, possession of burglary tools, and violating his felony probation.
