Leopoldo Canedo, 64, was found unsuitable for parole following a Feb. 11 hearing of the State Board of Parole Hearings conducted at the state prison in Blythe.

Deputy District Attorney John Baker appeared at the hearing and opposed the granting of parole based on the defendant's prison history and his untruthfulness to the Board.
The Board of Parole Hearings agreed and denied parole for five more years.

Canedo was convicted of the murder of Ernest Morales on Jan. 7, 1986 at the Sea Breeze Motel on South Ninth Street in Modesto. Canedo was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison on August 25, 1985. Canedo has previously been denied parole on three separate occasions. His next hearing will be scheduled for 2019.
