A free two-hour workshop for females billed as promoting wellness, creativity, and intergenerational connection took place Monday and will be repeated on Monday, June 22 at the Ceres Community Center.
“It being summer and a lot of kids not having much positive activities to do we are hosting these two workshops,” said Joanna Esparza.
The “She Became” organization will presents BRAVE Studio Series, an arts and crafts session targeted for girls in middle school up to women of all ages.
“It is an art, wellness, mental health, a little bit of financial education,” said Deena Elliott, the vice president of the She Became board of directors. “The idea is that the women and the girls that are registered to attend are going to different stations and do some crafts and do some prompts and learn a little bit about what it is to be in community and do art and wellness and connection and financial literacy.”
“It’s kind of an all -encompassing idea. We haven’t done this before, so this is kind of a pilot program we’re trying out. The main purpose is for us to come together, um, as sisters in community.”
The final piece of the evening would be a “sister circle and the idea of that is that we empower girls and women together,” said Elliott.
She Became is a 401 c 3) volunteer organization that has been around for nine years.
Similar workshops have been held in Modesto as well as at Modesto Junior College and at the Collective Space in Riverbank. Workshops were also held at Denair Middle School.
The workshop will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 22. A total of 30 spaces are available and participants will need to sign up for a free ticket by visiting https://www.shebecame.com/event-details/she-became-presents-brave-studio-series-session-2
Organizers say that no prior artistic experience is needed, and there’s no pressure to perform. Participants are encouraged to come as they are and enjoy treats along the way.
