The shooting of a woman just outside the Ceres city limits north of Hatch Road has prompted an investigation by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department for the shooter.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., on Sunday a woman in her 30s was inside her vehicle on the south side of Eugene Avenue just east of Bystrum Road when a shot rang out. A round hit her in the back. Inside a nearby house was the woman’s boyfriend who heard the shot and then the honking of a horn. It was the victim trying to render aid. Her car was parked partially straddling the curb. It was not clear if the woman’s car was rolling at the time of the shooting or if she was parked.
The woman was taken to a Modesto hospital for treatment of a wound, which did not appear to be life-threatening.
There was one report that the suspect had fled in silver-colored SUV with front passenger side damage.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 521-4636 and may be eligible for a cash reward.
