A man who robbed Pay Less Shoe Source, 1520 Mitchell Road, at knifepoint on Sunday evening, walked right into police who surrounded the building.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Berber said that his department was called at 7:08 p.m. by a customer who left the store as a man walked in with a knife. The robber, later identified as Anthony Jacob Noreiga, 37, of Modesto, locked the front doors and confronted two female employees. Noreiga demanded money and personal property as the women activated a silent alarm.

Police officers surrounded the back of the building as one of the victims made a break for it to escape out the back door with Noreiga chasing her. Officers learned that he had assaulted them during the takeover robbery, grabbed one by the hair to move her around. Noreiga walked out of the back door and right into police, who had guns drawn.

Noreiga was arrested and charged with robbery as well as sexual assault for groping one of the women.
