The Central Valley Ska Festival will take place in Ceres on Saturday, April 20 and feature some of the best Ska/rocksteady/reggae the Valley has to offer.
The event, which is presented by Ska Radio and Central Valley Reggae & Soul Club, will be held from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on April 20 at Five Eye Brewing, 1920 Foundry Court, Ceres.
Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. It combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. Ska is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the offbeat.
The music lineup will include “For The Record” from Fresno, “Simple Solution” and “Lesdystics,” both from Sacramento; “Ants in my Eyes Johnson” from Chico; “Filet the 13th” from Tracy; and three from Modesto – “Before Twenty,” “Horizon Point” and “The Bracers.”
