Central Valley High School freshman Maria Veliz was honored by the Ceres Rotary Club as its "Student of the Month."

Maria is a bright young lady who has struggled with her academic potential in the past. She has grown academically and personally as a student in the Success 101 program. Maria has earned A's and B's in her classes, including pre-AP and advanced level course work.

Maria was instrumental in the Success 101 Pay It Forward campaign as well as participation in the Hidahl Elementary School mentoring partnership. Maria mentioned, "I know why I was put in the Success 101 program and it has helped me to better myself academically and personally. I am motivated to do better for the sake of my future goals."

Maria would like to become a psychiatrist.
