A 58-year-old Ceres man sustained fatal injuries after he reportedly jumped onto Highway 99 from atop the HighHatch Road overpass on Monday evening.

The victim was identified as Harry Anderson.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case as a suicide, according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Eric Parsons. However the death had not officially been ruled a suicide as of press time, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office.

According to Ceres Police Lt. Brent Smith a 9-1-1 call was placed at 8 p.m. reporting a body lying on the freeway.

"He was not hit by a car but he was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center where he was pronounced dead," said Smith.

Details were sketchy.
