A Ceres bicyclist was killed yesterday in a crash on Service Road west of Crows Landing Road near Ceres.

The early morning collision took the life of Carlos Torres, 51.

The California Highway Patrol said that at 3:30 a.m. Torres was riding his Roadmaster Mt. Fury bicycle eastbound on Service Road in the westbound lane. Alexis Andrew Lopez, 25, of Ceres, was driving westbound at approximately 60 mph in light fog and failed to see the cyclist in time to avoid hitting him. Lopez tried to brake his Hyundai Accent in time and veer to the right but hit the man and his bicyclist. The victim hit the car's windshield and roof.

He was later pronounced dead at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
