A dispute over an owner's dog killing cats in the neighborhood led to a fight and the stabbing of a man in the 2500 block of Don Pedro Road Wednesday morning, March 30.

The 33-year-old male victim, whose name was not released by police, is in stable condition at a local hospital after undergoing surgery. He sustained stab wounds to his abdomen at approximately 11:09 a.m.

Police say the suspect, Louis Lombardi, 49, of Ceres, fled the scene but was arrested at a home in Modesto later in the day. Lombardi was arrested for attempted murder and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

Ceres detectives served a search warrant at Lombardi's residence and seized a sawed-off shotgun. Stacey Sylvetta 46, of Ceres, was taken into custody for possession of the illegal weapon.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the fight started over the suspect's dogs killing neighborhood cats which they stated appeared to to be an ongoing problem.

Investigators are still investigating. Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact Ceres Detective Perry at 538-5630.
