Police collect guns, drugs, gang suspects

Marijuana, illegal assault rifles and gang suspects were arrested during a Ceres police led sweep of several homes in Ceres and Modesto on Monday.

Two search warrants were executed at two Ceres homes and one Modesto address by Ceres police, Ceres and county SWAT teams and parole agents starting at 9 a.m.

Investigators located evidence of sales of marijuana, an undisclosed amount of cash and an illegal assault rifle in a raid on a home in the 600 block of Park Hurst Way.

Suspects Habib Shadid, 24, and brother Mujeed Shadid, 23, both of Modesto, escaped captured and are wanted.

Investigators then searched a home in the 3700 block of Armando Court in Ceres where Danny Zuniga, 21, was arrested. Zuniga may have been involved in a Los Angeles armed robbery. He was also found to be an illegal foreign national and ICE agents were notified.

An additional warrant was served in the 1600 block of Murillo Avnue where a .22-caliber rifle was recovered. As a precaution, nearby Sam Vaughn Elementary School was placed on lockdown for student safety until the residence was secured.

Monday's operation related to information obtained in an Oct. 9 traffic stop on a car in the 1100 block of Nadine Avenue, during which Street Crimes Unit officers found a stolen Glock 9mm handgun with a loaded 30-round extended magazine. Arrested on the stop were Juan Guerra, 19, Christian Padilla, 20, and Habib Shadid, 24. All three were booked and later released on bail. All three are documented Norteno gang members.
