Caltrans will be shutting down lanes of Highway 99 through the end of the month between Mitchell and Whitmore work continues on the construction of a concrete center median.

A spokeswoman with Caltrans' Stockton office said that the fast lanes of northbound and southbound 99 will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday. It's advised to find a different route to avoid the delays of 15 minutes or longer.

The work is part of a $2.4 million contract the state has with Teichert Construction of Turlock.

"This project is to enhance the safety of that corridor," said Chantel Miller of Caltrans.

Work should be done by the end of the month.

The work replaces the center divider oleander bushes.

The project is subject to weather conditions and could change, said Miller.
