A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock for Adelaide E. Nunes, 98, of Turlock. The former Keyes resident died recently at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Burial was at Turlock Memorial Park under the direction of Allen Mortuary.

Born June 1910 in Milpitas to George C. and Rosa S. Nunes, Adelaide moved with her family to Keyes when she was eight years old. They lived there for several years. She later moved to Turlock where she spent the past 37 years. Mrs. Nunes was employed for 60 years at her brother's business in Keyes, George H. Nunes Inc. She was a member of the Y.L.I - Young Ladies Institute #193 of Hughson-Ceres for 60 years. Adelaide was their first organist and held the office of president as well as other positions. She was known for the decorations and corsages she made for Y.L.I functions. Mrs. Nunes was also an active member of the Native Daughter of the Golden West in her earlier years and served as one of its presidents.

Being of Portuguese descent, Adelaide was affiliated with the Turlock Portuguese Lodge, U.P.P.C. She made two trips to experience her heritage, one to mainland Portugal and to Madeira. The other trip was taken to the Azores to visit the islands of Pico and St. George where her parents were born. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock.

She leaves behind her sister Yvonne Mead of Ceres. Adelaide was preceded in death by parents George and Rosa Nunes and brother George H. Nunes.
