A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Whitehurst, Norton, & Dias Funeral Chapel, 285 West Main St., Turlock for Alice Mae Nitta, 82, of Keyes. She died Feb. 8, 2008.

Born June 6, 1925 in Dearborn, Mich., to Harry and Lillian Rideoutt, Alice was the oldest daughter in a family of 12 raised during the Great Depression era. Alice was a dedicated wife and mother raising five boys and one girl in blue collar northwest Detroit. Always the dedicated mother, she kept close to her the two youngest boys with disabilities, making sure their needs were met. These actions extended beyond her family as a friend who could be counted on for a trip to the grocery store, a ride to cancer treatments, or simply to talk. Alice leaves a legacy as a dedicated, selfless wife, mother to her family, friend to many, and Jesus Christ is her personal savior. Mrs. Nitta was a member of Modesto Free Methodist Church.

Upon retirement, Alice and her husband Stan moved from Michigan to Keyes in 1988.

She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Stan Nitta of Keyes; her children, Alan Nitta of Phoenix, Ariz., Guy Nitta of Ridgecrest, Kathy Hales of Detroit, Mich., Curt Nitta of Turlock, and Stan Nitta Jr. of Ceres; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Glenn Nitta.
