A graveside service was held on Saturday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Alva "Jean" Hardy, 79, of Modesto. She died on Jan. 7, 2012.

Franklin and Downs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born July 12, 1932 in Phoenix, Ariz., Jean moved to Modesto 67 years ago. She was a school bus driver for the Ceres, Modesto and Empire school districts from 1968 to 1984 and then worked again for Ceres from 1987 to 1991. From 1991 until her retirement Mrs. Hardy worked for the Turlock School District. She enjoyed camping and genealogy and traveling around the world. She hosted Japanese foreign exchange students.

She leaves behind two children Michael Walter Hardy and Michelle Jean Hardy-Ballesteros, both of Modesto; one sister; three grandchildren, Michael More, Misty Mirko and Matthew Hardy; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years Ismol Hardy and parents Howard and Connie Brown.
