A funeral service was held Friday at Mar Addai Parish Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East in Turlock for Anoya L. Anoya , 64, of Modesto. He died Aug. 28, 2007 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Burial was at Turlock Memorial Park under the direction of Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Chapel in Turlock.

Born March 1, 1943, Mr. Anoya was a native of Baghdad, Iraq, and has lived in Modesto for 28 years. He was a member of St. George Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East in Ceres and was the founder and previous owner of the Eastern Market in Modesto since 1984.

He leaves behind his wife, Araxi Anoya of Modesto; his daughter, Evelyn Anoya of The Hague, Netherlands; two brothers, Yacoub Anoya of Chicago, Ill., and Youkhana Anoya of Baghdad, Iraq; four sisters, Khana Murad of Scottsdale, Ariz., Pana Khoshaba and Ana Anoya of Baghdad, Iraq, and Helo Anoya of Jonkoping, Sweden; and his grandson, Samuel Demirdjian of The Hague, Netherlands. He was preceded in death by his parents Ghazal and Lazar Anoya and his first wife Narghis Anoya in 1973.
