A funeral was held Tuesday morning at the Ceres Seventh-day Adventist Church for Antonio Ruiz Gandarela, 50, of Ceres. He died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005 in the Highway 99 mudslide accident.

Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Born July 18, 1955, Mr. Gandarela was a native of San Jose and had lived in Ceres for several months. He was a longshoreman for for 32 years. Mr. Gandarela was a member of the Ceres Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 20, San Francisco. Mr. Gandarela enjoyed tennis, racketball and church.

He leaves behind his wife, Jayne Gandarela of Ceres; his daughter, Christina Andrea Gandarela of Ceres; his mother, Olga Lucero Ruiz of Stockton; and his brother, David Gandarela of North Carolina.
