A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel for Arvil A. Presson, 84, of Ceres. He died Oct. 2, 2008.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 1, 1924 in Mansfield, Ark., to Tony and Mary Presson, Arvil married Bernice in 1945. They raised their family in Ceres, where they were getting ready to celebrate their 63rd anniversary in November. Arvil was an auto technician for over 50 years, owning Jack's Garage in Modesto and Riverside Motors in Riverbank. He was a 32nd degree Mason, belonging to Smyrna Lodge 532 Ceres, Scottish Rites, and Ben Ali Temple in Stockton. Mr. Presson was a past associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel 171 Ceres, and member of the Order of Eastern Star. Arvil was the First Secretary and Treasurer of the Westport Fire Department. Arvil enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time with his family.

He leaves behind his wife, Bernice Presson of Ceres; his daughters, Geraldine Peterson, Arviline Chapman, and Jeanne Houx, all of Modesto; his grandchildren, Mary and Ray Meyer, Kimberly Chapman, Ronnie Gonzales, Tony Peterson, Stephanie and James Doty, Renee and Donny Sanderson, and Alisa Chapman; and seven great-grandchildren, Andre, Matthew, Cassie Meyer; Ashlee and Austin Doty; Joey Johnson and Cody Gonzales.
