A memorial service was held Friday at Trinity United Presbyterian in Modesto for Barbara Mae Peterson Broggi, 76, of Modesto. She died Aug. 30, 2009.
A graveside service was at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Born Nov. 18, 1933 Barbara was born in Nashua, Iowa to Matthew and Geraldine Peterson. She was raised in Iowa, Washington, and California, where she has spent most of her life. She attended Manteca High School and later, after she lost her first husband, worked full-time to support her four children while attending nursing school in Waterloo, Iowa. After earning her vocational nursing license, Barbara worked as an LVN at Scenic General Hospital and Tillie Lewis Foods, both in Modesto; and at Hale Aloha Convalescent Hospital in Ceres, until her retirement in 1997. Mrs. Broggi enjoyed using her bass voice to sang in a women's barbershop quartet as a young woman. She also enjoyed participating in a women's bowling league, hosting family gatherings, traveling, camping, playing cards, and doing puzzles. Barbara was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Modesto.
She leaves behind her husband of 34 years, Ed Broggi of Modesto; her children, Diana Teunissen of Modesto, Jerry Ann Ross of Eureka, Montana, Susan Wares of Ceres, Mark Broggi of Hope, Idaho, and Lee Broggi of Fresno; three stepchildren, Mike Broggi, Chris Broggi andDebra Broggi; and 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by he parents, brother Galen, and son Curtis.
