Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lakewood Funeral Home's Heritage Chapel, for Bernardino "Ben" Tapia Jr., 63, of Empire. He died July 19, 2010.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

Burial will follow at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Born March 1, 1947 in Hanford to Bernardino and Juanita Tapia, Ben served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded three Bronze Star medals. Mr. Tapia was a member of VFW Post #10293 in Ceres, and was active in the honor guard for military funeral services.

He leaves behind his wife, Karen Tapia of Empire; his children, Dino Tapia, Michael Tapia, Anthony Tapia, Jason Tapia and Sarah Tapia; and 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
