Services were held Monday at Lakewood Memorial Park & Funeral Home for Bert R. Prouty, 86, Modesto. He died Dec. 29, 2011 in Modesto.

Burial included a graveside service with military honors.

Born July 27, 1925 in Turlock to Russel and Ethel Prouty, Bert lived most of his life on the family property in rural Hughson. He helped with the farming of the fields and ranch animals as a young boy and teenager, continuing to tend to the property and crops until just a few years ago. Upon returning from the Navy, he started Prouty Trucking and was deeply involved in this business along with his wife Beverley. Prouty Trucking was sold and Bert retired in 1977. Bert was a national officer for many years in the American Truck Historical Society and was a charter member of the Central California Chapter. He loved Ford and other trucks and travelling.

He leaves behind two daughters, Ellen Fletcher of Denair, Alice Prouty of Oroville and Rebecca Yarnell of Hilmar; his brother, Richard Prouty of Adair, Okla.; and 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Beverly, son Dale, brother Ernest and his parents.
