A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 27 at Herald General Baptist Church in Modesto for Betty Lee Houston, 81, of Ceres. She died Aug. 22, 2008 after a brief illness with her family and friends by her side.

Burial was at Canadian Cemetery in Canadian, Texas.

Born Jan. 11, 1927, Mrs. Houston was a native of Amarillo, Texas where she attended school. In 1943 she married Richard E. Houston Sr. They moved to Modesto in the early 1950's, and then to Ceres in 1959. In the early 1970's she opened Houston's Automotive in Modesto with her husband. Betty worked at Yosemite Auto Parts until her retirement in 1993. Betty was a past member of the Ceres Twisters Square Dance Club and an active member in the Geneology Society.

She leaves behind three children, Linda Bosowski of Redlands, Richard Houston Jr. and Vivian Sweatman, both of Modesto; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Lobo and Bryan Bosowski, of Redlands, Samantha McCarty, Ryan Holliday, Rory Holliday, Brynn Holliday, Brady Holliday of Modesto and Kathy Standifer of Ramona; and eight great-grandchildren, Maddison Lobo, Noah McCarty, Luke McCarty, Katie McCarty, Harlye Holliday, Sylas Keathley Holliday, Kennedy Standifer and Tatum Standifer. She was preceded in death by husband Richard E. Houston Sr. and her parents Jess and Linda Sanders.
