A memorial service was held Saturday at at the Ceres Christian Church, for Billy J. Laffoon, 80, of Ceres. He died March 30, 2008 after a long illness.

The Colonial Chapel of Franklin was in charge of arrangements.

Born on April 1, 1927 in Wewoka, Okla., Mr. Laffoon moved to California as a young man. He served in the Army for 20 years and then went to work in real estate with his brother and Yosemite Community College District as storekeeper and warehouseman for Modesto City Schools. He enjoyed golfing and being with family and friends.

He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Patricia Laffoon of Ceres; his children, Pamela Simpkins, Joni Laffoon, Billi McElroy, Barry Laffoon, Darren Laffoon and Leslee Gutierrez; his brother, Paul Laffoon; four sisters, Opal Carroll, Vivian Williams, Charlene Wood and Tommie Jean Ingram; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents Ora Joe and Alta Laffoon and brother Harry Laffoon.
