A funeral was held Tuesday at Grace Community Christian Church in Ceres for Bob G. "Poppy" Smith, 73, of Ceres. He died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park under the direction of the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs.
Born April 23, 1930, Mr. Smith was a native of Sasakwa, Okla., and lived in Ceres since 1968. He previously lived in the Bay Area from 1950-68 and Ceres from 1943-50. He retired in 1990 as a street supervisor for the city of Ceres after 20 years. Mr. Smith attended Modesto High School and was a member of Grace Community Christian Church in Ceres. He enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Smith leaves behind his wife, Pat Smith of Ceres; three children, Larry Smith, Phil Smith and Michele Wright, all of Ceres; his sister, Sue Dennis of Oklahoma; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister.
