A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Bud Halsey, 62, of Hughson. He died June 25, 2010 at his home after an eight-year fight against cancer.

Born Dec. 23, 1947, Bud was born and raised in Hughson. He and wife Cheri founded Modesto T-Ball in 1977, owned and operated Gary's Drive-in and Paradise Speed Queen Laundromat in Modesto, Halsey's Husky Burger in Hughson, Jolly Kone Junction in Empire, and Take-Five Charters Houseboat Rentals on the Stockton Delta. An avid outdoorsman, Bud enjoyed camping, bass fishing, and deer and duck hunting. He was a member of the Old Fisherman's Club, Escalon Sportsman's Club and Turlock Sportsman's Club.

Bud leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Cheri Halsey; two sons, Chris Halsey of Oakdale and Colby Halsey of St. Louis; his sister, Jeanette Johnson of Hughson; and four grandchildren, Lexi Halsey, Zane Halsey, Katie Halsey, and Alivia Halsey. He was preceded in death by parents Dorothy and Galen Halsey, and sister Dianna Doerkson.
