A graveside service was held Thursday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Carl Bernard Goins, 87, of Ceres. He died Dec. 21, 2011 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson with his family at his side.

Born Dec. 26, 1923, Carl served in the armed forces during World War II from October 1940 to November 1945 and received a Purple Heart. His theater of operations was in the Southwestern Pacific Theater and included the liberation of the Philippines. A longtime Christian, Mrs. Goins was a lifetime member of the Ceres Honor Guard, American Legion and a lifetime member of the Masons.

He leaves behind his wife, Evelyn Goins; his son, William Carl Stephens of Alabama; his sister, Billie Noble of Texas; three stepchildren, Carole Beck, Charles Laswell and Sandy Laswell; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
