Services were held Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hughson Ward for Carroll Dean Jensen, 78, of Hughson. He died August 24, 2008.

Born Nov. 27, 1929 in Hyrum, Utah, Dean was born to Harvey and Rita Jensen as the youngest of three siblings, including his sister, Lois and his brother, Don. Dean graduated from South Cache High School in 1948. While attending college, he married Jennie VaLoyce Hovey of Millville, Utah in 1949. After graduating from Utah State University with a degree in music, Mr. Jensen taught band, elementary grades, and junior high school for 34 years in Idaho and California. He retired from the Empire Union School District, where he taught reading at Teel Middle School in 1985.

Mr. Jensen enjoyed music and farming. As a teen, he played in a dance band with his mother and sister. He later taught private accordion lessons in Santa Maria and Modesto.

He also farmed 40 acres of almonds in Hughson. Mr. Jensen was an amateur radio operator license in 1975. He enjoyed "rag chewing" on Morse code and providing emergency radio communication for his church.

He leaves behind his wife, VaLoyce Jensen of Hughson; two children, Chet Jensen and Michelle Jensen; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
