A funeral service was held July 19 at Turlock Funeral Home for former Ceres police dispatcher Catherine "Cathy" Sue Tanner Atkinson, 54, of Turlock. She died suddenly on July 10, 2012.

Burial was at Turlock Memorial Park.

Born April 16, 1958 in Turlock to James and Betty Tanner, Cathy was raised in Turlock on the family farm. She attended Mitchell Community Church, Chatom Elementary School, Turlock High School class of 1976, and graduated from Modesto Junior College with a degree in Criminal Justice during that time she was also campus security. Caty then went on to work at Ceres Police Dept as a police dispatcher. During that time she married Jim Atkinson and together they had three beautiful children.

The following years she worked for the Child Support Division in Plumas County, police dispatcher in Bend, Ore,, and then to her most recent employer Oakdale Police Department as a police dispatcher for the last 15 years.

Mrs. Atkinson was an avid Oakland Raiders and Oakland A's fan. Cathy loved to travel and most dear to her heart was being with her family.

She leaves behind her three children, James Atkinson of San Diego, Daniel Atkinson of Roy, Utah, and Amanda Schmitt of O'Fallon, Ill.; her sisters, Cheryl Chesnutt, Christine Huber, Charlene Mota, and Colleen Sanderson; her brother, John Tanner; and three granddaughters, Annabella, Elizabeth, and Amelia.
