A graveside service was held Tuesday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Charles H. Reed, 80, of Ceres. He died of natural causes at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto on Wednesday, May 5, 2004.

Lakewood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born Jan. 24, 1924, Mr. Reed was a native of Russell, N.Y., and lived in Ceres for six years. He previously lived in Winton from 1989 to 1998 and Manteca from 1978 to 1989. He was retired from the Air Force in 1963. Mr. Reed was a maintenance person for Castle Air Force Base in Atwater from 1963 to 1978, and the Tracy Defense Depot from 1978 to 1988, the year he retired. Mr. Reed enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Waterford, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7792 in Winton, and the American Legion Post #668 in Ballico.

He leaves behind four children, Rick Miller of Modesto and Penny Rabing, both of Modesto, and Dennis Red and Ron Reed, both of Ceres; and two stepdaugters, Janice Farris of Mdoesto and Sharon Miller of Ceres. He was preceded in death by his wife Verda, who died in 1998; and son Thomas Miller who died in Ceres in 1996.
