Charles Tatoyan

A funeral service was held Friday morning at Lakewood Funeral Home for Charles Tatoyan, 88, of Modesto. He died Friday, July 22, 2005 at his home.

Born Feb. 5, 1917, Mr. Tatoyan was a native of Berkeley and had lived in Modesto since 1948. In 1921, he moved with his family to Escalon, where the family operated the Tatoyan dry yard and dehydrator until the end of World War II. He was a graduate of Escalon High School and Modesto Junior College. He ranched in Escalon and Keyes until the early 1970s, when he bought the H. Weinflash Co. and became a wine broker. Mr. Tatoyan bought grapes for several Napa Valley wineries and eventually worked exclusively for the Charles Krug Winery. He was a past member of Modesto Masonic Lodge 675 and Elks Lodge 1282, as well as the Old Fisherman's Club.

He leaves behind his wife, Julia Tatoyan of Modesto; two children, Kathy Connley and Richard Tatoyan, both of Modesto; his brother, John Tatoyan Jr. of Modesto; his sister, Martha Cool of Modesto; and several adopted grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian.
