A memorial service was held Friday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Delores Lavern Felser, 67, of Keyes. She died March 23, 2011 in Modesto.

Born Jan. 11, 1944, Delores graduated from Modesto High School in 1961 and studied photography at Modesto Junior College. She won several Best of Show awards for her photos. Delores was a foster parent for 20 years and was an advocate and lobbyist for the rights of foster children and parents at local, state and national levels. She served as vice president and membership chairperson for the Stanislaus County Foster Parent Association. She was an employee of Excel Center for teenage boys and served on numerous committees including fundraising and planning. Delores also organized and implemented projects and events for Foster, Adoptive and Kinship families and for Excel Center.

She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, John Felser of Ceres; her children, Deanna Mello, Genise Williams, Denise Salinas and John Brian Felser; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents James Elvin Osborn and Eulah Loretta Maxwell and grandson Monty Spencer Mello.
