A private service was held Monday, August 29 at Lakewood Memorial Park for Donald Gary Baim, 68, of Modesto. He died Aug. 23, 2011.

Born March 21, 1943 to Elmer and Dorothy Baim in Newport, R.I., and grew up in Modesto. He graduated from Downey High School in 1961. He graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy from Long Beach State University in 1968. In 1969 Baim enlisted in the Army and was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps. He served a year at the former Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco at the height of the Vietnam War and was promoted to captain and transferred to Fort Ord, where he was honorably discharged in 1971. In 1971, Donald joined Lyle Andersen PT in Modesto to form Andersen and Baim Physical Therapy Practice, which at the time contracted with the Gould Medical Foundation, and Memorial Hospital Ceres. The partnership expanded in Stanislaus County over the next 18 years, contracting numerous orthopedic offices as well as several nursing homes in the area.

Baim met Margaret Bowren in 1982 and in 1988, they were married. He enjoyed traveling to Mexico, golfing, duck hunting. Mr. Baim belonged to Del Rio Country Club, Palm Valley Country Club in Palm Desert and the Modesto Gun Club.

He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Margaret Baim of Modesto; his daughter, Lisa Baim; his sister, Linda Baim Hutchinson; his granddaughter, Hillary Zensen Baim; and great-grandson Joshua Baim. He was preceded in death by son Jason Baim and parents.
