Dorothy Shively

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs, 12th & G streets, in Modesto, for Dorothy Maxine Shively, 84, of Modesto. She died Dec. 13, 2007 in Modesto.

Born Sept. 30, 1923 in Modesto, Mrs. Shively attended Modesto High School where she was active in school and especially the band. She was drum major under Frank "Prof" Mancini. She loved music and enjoyed playing bridge. Mrs. Shively graduated from San Jose State University, eventually ending up teaching in Hughson. She excelled at being a band teacher and grade school teacher. She loved her students and they loved her.

Dorothy was active in the Modesto Symphony, not only as a player, but also as a loyal supporter for years. She played in Mo-Band up to the age of 82, and served on its board for many years.

She leaves behind two sons, Don Stevenson and Doug Stevenson; and three grandchildren, Dr. Amber Stevenson, Justin Stevenson, and Jordon Stevenson.
