A funeral service was held Tuesday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for Douglas Stanley Brown, 93, of Modesto. He died July 9, 2008 at Evergreen Convalescent Hospital in Modesto.

Interment was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Brown was born Oct. 8, 1914 in Westmoreland, to Edgar Stanley Brown and Lois Michelle McCulloch. At the age of 8 his family moved to the Waterford-Hickman area where he attended grade school and graduated from Hughson High School in 1932. He served in the Army and then married Helen Puzniak. They had four children. Mr. Brown was a chicken rancher and manager for Foster Farms until his retirement. Douglas was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and had attended both Waterford and Modesto churches. Bible study was very important to Douglas, as well as spending time with his family.

He leaves behind two daughters, Judith Stroud and Michail Busch, both of Modesto; and seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen Price Brown, and sons Ronald Puzniak and Bradley Brown.
