Dwight Cathcart, a longtime resident of Ceres, passed away on Nov. 21, 2017 at the age of 93.

A viewing will take place at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs, 2561 Fifth Street, Ceres, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 8.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Ceres Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Franklin & Downs Funeral Home.

He was born in Lamanda Park, Calif., on Jan. 4, 1924, to the late Thuerl and Laura Cathcart, as one of seven children. Dwight served our country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943, where he was a Class 3 Motor Machinist during World War II. Dwight married his wife Dorothy M. Loran in 1946; they were married for 56 years prior to her passing. Together they had four children. He owned D.L Cathcart Asphalt Seal Coating in Ceres for more than 40 years.

In his spare time he enjoyed building remote controlled airplanes. He is a past IMAA Representative and Chapter 10 President- Quarter Scale Modeler Member AMA Turlock RC Club-Merced RC Club. He was also an avid fisherman.

He leaves behind his four children, Linda (James) Rutledge of Washington, Charles (Sandy) Cathcart of Oregon, Dennis (Sandy) Cathcart of Ceres, and Dale (Cheryl) Cathcart of Waterford; his sister, Barbara Large of Washington; and 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Dwight is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, and three brothers.
