A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church in Redding for Earl Blomquist, 73, of Redding. He died April 15, 2009.

Born in August, 1935 in Turlock, Earl graduated from Turlock High in 1954. After he was drafted into the Army - where he worked on the Nike Ajax and surface to air missile systems - he attended Humboldt State University to earn his bachelor's degree. He wanted to become a teacher like his wife Marsha, whom he married in 1961. He moved to Watsonville where he taught for 29 years in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. He retired in 1993 and moved to Trinity Center and in 2001 to Redding. He volunteered at the libraries in Redding and Anderson and garnered the "Volunteer of the Year" honor.
