Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Funeral Home for Earl Nevitt Wallis, 87, of Modesto. He died June 3, 2008.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Valor Garden at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe, Hughson.

A reception will take place at Riverside Reception Hall located next to the funeral home after the committal service.

Born Aug. 28, 1920, Mr. Wallis was born to Frank and Leannah Wallis and was a Stanislaus County resident all his life. Earl graduated from Hughson High School in 1939 and obtained an A.A. upon graduation from Modesto Junior College in Agricultural Business. Mr. Wallis served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from Jan. 27, 1942 to Dec. 3, 1945.

He was a good dancer and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing the organ. Earl was a charter member of Hughson United Methodist Church. Mr. Wallis also belonged to the Swiss Club and Dante Club for over 20 years and was a Young Farmer of Hughson.
