A memorial service was held on Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption in Turlock for Edward "Ed" J. Azevedo Jr., 56, of Hughson. He died from a cancerous brain tumor on Sept. 23, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Born Dec. 22, 1953 in Modesto to Edward and Pauline Azevedo, Ed was raised on a family dairy farm in Hughson. He graduated from Hughson High School in 1972. He attended Modesto Junior College and Long Beach City College. Mr. Azevedo worked for Tri Valley Growers from 1976-1990, then as a long haul truck driver for many years. Most recently he was employed out of the Teamsters Hall Local #631 in Las Vegas, Nev., as a forklift driver for the convention centers.

Ed leaves behind two sisters, Donna Relvas of Gustine, and Gloria Fernandes of Ceres.
