Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Elsie Marie Charles, 92, of Turlock. She died last week.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Covenant Village in Turlock.

Born March 1918 in Fort Sumner, N.M., Elsie found a husband in P.W. Hall in 1936. They moved to Ceres where she raised her family. Mrs. Charles was active as a PTA president and Brownie troop leader. She was an accomplished seamstress but for 18 years worked in sales at Hammetts. At 59, she married a childhood friend, Joe Morgan Charles and gained five stepchildren, Carol Charles, Bill Charles, Jo Francis Scott, Joy Reed, Don Charles and eventually numerous grandchildren. After living a while in the San Diego area, Elsie returned to Turlock around 1990 where she cared for him until his death in 1995. At Covenant Village she enjoyed friends, sharing meals, movies, church services and card games together.

She leaves behind two daughters, Deane Nance of Modesto, and Pat Morrow of Turlock; three grandchildren, Kelli Thorp, Alisa Ainslie and Jeffrey Elwess; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Carl Doberenz and Emma Doberenz Plake, brother Kenneth Doberenz, sister Esther Brown, infant twin daughters Lorna June and Norma Jean Hall, first husband P.W. Hall and second husband Joe Morgan Charles.
