A memorial service was held Thursday at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin and Downs for Elton "Eldie" Turner, 93, of Ceres. He died March 3, 2008.

Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park.

Born May 13, 1914, Mr. Turner was one of nine children born to George and Nellie Turner on the family ranch in rural Ceres, where he lived his entire life. Eldie graduated from Ceres High School in 1933. He enjoyed life on the ranch raising cattle and farming as well as the Turner Brothers hay business he ran with brother Herb Turner. Mr. Turner was a member of the Ceres United Methodist Church of Ceres, which recently merged with the Hughson Methodist Church. He enjoyed telling stories to people he met.

He leaves behind his children, Arlene Intorf of Sonora, Dr. Alberta Freitas of San Francisco, and Marshall Turner of Fresno; his sister, Alice Savage of San Francisco; his grandchildren, Dale Intorf, Roger Intorf, Cheryl Kuhr, Susan Eandi, Chris Turner and Amanda Green; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Elsie Wilhite Turner, in August, 2005, and siblings Ethel Baldridge, Lena Belle Coover, Mary Service, Grace Hill and brothers Clarence Turner, Herbert Turner and Bill Turner.
