A graveside service was held Thursday at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery for Emmitt Johnson Burris, 86, of Ceres. He died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at his home.
A memorial service was held Saturday at Holy Ground Ministries in Turlock.
Allen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Born March 3, 1918, Mr. Burris was a native of Oklahoma and had lived in Ceres since 1977. He previously lived in Chowchilla, Waterford and Turlock. Mr. Burris was a sanitation worker. He was a member of Holy Ground Ministries in Turlock. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He leaves behind six children, Mary Lou Inman, Jess Lee Burris, Emmitt Burris and Gracie Young, all of Ceres, Stanley Copeland of Kerman and Mary Joyce Copeland of North Carolina; and 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
