A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5 at Turlock Free Methodist Church for Esther Mytle Thorsen, 90, of Turlock. The former Hughson resident died Jan. 28, 2011 in Turlock.

Allen Mortuary is in charge of burial at Turlock Memorial Park.

Born November 1920 in Hennessey, Okla., Esther was the second of four children born to Haskell and Myrtle Wells. As a small child, she moved with her family to California, eventually settling in Hughson. Esther attended Modesto Junior College, and worked at the Milk Producers during World War II. After the War, Esther married Rodney J.B. Thorsen, owner of Thorsen's Plumbing, Inc., and moved to Turlock. She was a homemaker and active in Christian ministries through Turlock Free Methodist Church. Mrs. Thorsen enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, painting (rosemaling), gardening, traveling and camping in Yosemite National Park. She visited more than 40 countries.

She leaves behind three children, Judy Enchelmayer of San Diego, Carl Thorsen of Turlock, and Don Thorsen of Upland; her brother, Raymond Wells; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Rodney Thorsen in 2005, and son Norman Joseph Thorsen in 2004.
