A graveside service was held Monday at Ceres Memorial Park for Evalyn Elam Oltmanns, 96, of Ceres. She died Nov. 3, 2010 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Born Oct. 14, 1914, Evalyn was one of seven children born in her family's farmhouse near Ceres. She graduated from Ceres schools, Modesto Junior College and a Fresno business college, where she learned to type 100 words per minute. In 1943, she married Ted Oltmanns, an Army serviceman from Iowa stationed in Lemoore. After World War II, they moved back to her family's farm near Ceres, raised their children there, and she lived there for most of the rest of her life. She was a homemaker for 15 years, then returned to work as a secretary at the Ceres School District, working up to Secretary to the Superintendent before she retired. Mrs. Oltmanns enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family.

She leaves behind four children, Susan Cowan of Oakdale, Jane Drumm of Modest, David Oltman of Antioch and Tim Oltman of Ceres; and three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice in Modesto; or to the American Cancer Society.
