A memorial service was held Saturday at Valley View Church of the Nazarene in Ceres for Evelyn E. Kimbel, 95, of Ceres. She died Jan. 11, 2010.

Evelyn was born on July 22, 1914 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., where she lived most of her life. She married Lee Philburn Kimbel on March 11, 1934. She worked for a short time at a shoe factory in town, but she quite to become a full-time mother after her first child was born. She relished being a mother, teaching her children to grow to be contributing citizens of their community. Her children became a teacher, minister, police officer, military personnel, business owners and other professions. She moved to Ceres in 1977 and was a charter resident of the Christian Terrace Senior Apartments in Ceres.

She leaves behind her children, Mary Baker of Modesto, Billy Kimbel of Platt City, Mo., and Tommy Kimbel of Jackson, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Connie Houston, Donald Baker, Roger Baker, Rebecca Geister, Kimberly Praiswater, Leann Fechner. Jamie Kimbel, Angela Geissinger and Ryan Kimbel; and 23 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Herman and Marie Allen, brothers Terry Allen and Elwood Allen, and husband Phil.
