A funeral service was held Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo for Evelyn Mashek Dahlberg Paulsen, 96, of San Luis Obispo. She died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005 at her home.

Interment was at Los Osos Mortuary.

Born Feb. 25, 1909, Mrs. Paulsen was a native of Octavia, Neb., and lived in San Luis Obispo for 29 years, and previously in Modesto. She graduated from Modesto High School, Modesto Junior College, the University of California at Berkeley, and California State University, Fresno. She taught art in many cities throughout California, including Ceres, Modesto, Weed and Santa Barbara; she also taught for Army Dependent Schools in Beppu, Kyushu, Japan, and Augsburg, Germany.

Mrs. Paulsen was an elder at First Presbyterian Church, San Luis Obispo. She was a member of Channel City Camera Club, Order of the Eastern Star, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, Monday Club and San Luis Obispo County Historical Society. She also served as president of Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Paulsen participated in summer camps in Santa Barbara, and served on the board of directors of the Santa Barbara City Teachers Club and the Santa Barbara branch of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Paulsen enjoyed traveling, painting in watercolor and oil, photography and gardening.

She leaves behind her sister, Dolores Giovanetti. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Paulsen.
