A funeral service was held Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hughson for Florence Marie Moitozo, 90, of Modesto. She died last week at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Allen Mortuary was in charge of burial at Turlock Memorial Park.

Born in April 1921 in San Jose to Anthony and Catherine LaCross, Florence moved to the Valley where she lived on a farm and attended Hilmar schools. Florence's mother passed away when she was young so she stayed home and helped to raise four brothers and four sisters. As a young adult she met Manuel Moitozo at a dance in Hughson and they married in 1942 and moved to Hughson. They were married 38 years. Florence was active in the church life of St. Anthony's Catholic Parish in women's groups and teaching catechism. Family gatherings and church activities were very important to Florence.

She leaves behind two sons, Sam Moitozo and Harry Moitozo, both of Modesto; two step-children, Manuel Moitozo Jr. and Irene Giannone; four brothers, Vern LaCross, Guilio LaCross, John LaCross and Sam LaCross; two grandchildren, Amy Johnson and Greg Moitozo; five step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, Donovan Johnson, Solomon Johnson and Draven Johnson. She was preceded in death by parents Anthony and Catherine LaCross, husband Manuel, sisters Lucy, Nancy, Mary, Josephine, Rose, and Jane and brother Jim.

Remembrances may be sent to St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
